I remember seeing the Prisoner on Monday the 4th. November
Instant - it was about 4 o'Clock in the afternoon - I saw him
opposite my own door serving his Customers with Milk as usual
I was then the other side of the Street from him, and could not
be deceived in its being him. I heard that there was a great
noise in Newport, and that the Chartists were coming down
to Pill - I had heard this a few minutes previous to my
seeing the Prisoner. I closed my Shutters in consequence, I
believe that every one in Pill, who kept either a Shop or public
house closed their Shutters - The Prisoner when I was closing
my Shutters came up the Street and laughed when he saw
we were closing the Shutters - he said nothing - I have
never heard the Prisoner say anything about the Chartists
since I discontinued taking Milk of him - I have not
spoken to him, or he to me since that time, I know nothing
of the Prisoner's character.

Morgan James Sworn Says I am a Labourer. I live at
Pillgwenlly, I have been working at a Coal Pit at Fleur de lis,
I have joined the Chartists I have attended their Meetings, I
was at a Public Meeting on Monday Whitsuntide last Whitsuntide
the meeting was held at Black Wood. I saw several thousand
of people there, I know John Frost well, I know Jones the
of Pontypool by sight, they addressed the Meeting,
they spoke and would have the Charter by moral force if they
could, they would have it by force, if they could not have it by
moral force. I attended another Meeting at Towns Duke
above Sirhowy - I see Frost at that Meeting, and I saw Jones
the Watchmaker
as they call him from Pontypool - they did
speak they spoke about the same thing as they did at Black
- I returned to the Fleur de lis - I do return every month
to my home at Pillgwenlly. I did hear it said at some of
those Meetings that the Working men were not to work for a
month - I did not understand what they did mean by stopping
a month. I returned home to Pill on Saturday the 2nd. November
